VINCENT WOODS

Vincent Woods is a poet, playwright and broadcaster. His plays include At The Black Pig’s Dyke, A Cry from Heaven and Song of The Yellow Bittern. His poetry collections are The Colour of Language and Lives and Miracles. He co-edited The Turning Wave, an anthology of the poetry and song of Irish Australia and received the 2002 Ted McNulty Poetry Award. He has written several song lyrics, some set to music by Mairtín O’Connor and recorded by Mary McPartlan. Radio plays are The Leitrim Hotel and The Gospels of Aughamore and with producer Peter Woods he has made a number of radio documentaries. Vincent has been writer in residence at NUI Galway and with Mayo County Council. He is a member of Aosdána.

Pissing in the snow
I managed
I LO\
You leant
laughing
out the window of the digs
in Grosvenor Square:
“You’re mad,” you said
“pure mad -
What about Mrs Quinn,
What if she comes out?”
She didn’t.
But I wish that I’d climbed in.
