"It is the trembling uncertainties of love itself that Wyley captures here in what may well become a heart-book for lovers old and new to carry in their jeans pockets." -Books Ireland on Poems for Breakfast
Room
after Nuala O’Faoláin
Saddest of all,
to leave behind
this room.
It isn’t its fault
that I have to go
and yet these days
I hate it.
It is everything
I will lose,
everything I know
there is not –
the heaven
I will never reach,
the air I will
no longer breathe,
all my memory
blanked out.
How can I
leave it now?
I press my back
against its door,
block its edges
with old cloths,
socks and towels,
yet still the light
creeps through,
burns my heels
and finger-tips –
taunts me with
tomorrow.
