Travelling by Touch

Dreamlike, I trace the path

out along the headland;

the long grass almost brushes

my trailing hands, my finger-

tips altered, bloodied by the years,

the long silences mostly wasted.

I cross the soundless miles,

the wildlife scattered in the dark,

my heart racing to the familiar

notch in the coastline, X marks

the spot, where my hand rests

on its midnight rendezvous.
