Ghost Children

i

two ghost children

lie on a mountain

by night

they watch the half moon

above them

the night sky curving

around them

ii

imagined fireworks

in a night sky

arching over us

on a steep mountain side

gift of myrtle –

in my travels neglected

entrusted to strangers –

dead now

how are you? I ask

unwilling to listen

unable to hear

fingers in my ears

humming a raga

you won't shout

you fall silent

and suck in

all the sound

in the silence

I am listening

at last
