Paul Bregazzi

Paul Bregazzi is a primary school teacher in West Dublin. He has been writing seriously for the past two years. His poetry has appeared in Crannóg, Revival and Stony Thursday poetry journals and been shortlisted for New Irish Writing in the Irish Independent. He read his work in the National Library Dublin as part of Culture Night 2012.

 

 


 

 

 

 

Carrying My Father

 

 

We lifted my father

 

to the toilet,

 

my mother and I.

 

He hung between us

 

like his old dressing gown.

 

 

Afterwards;

 

weeks, months,

 

I'd bury my head in it

 

on the back of his door;

 

 

inhaling what little breath

 

he'd left.
