The River Dragonfly

My dawn dragonfly

flits his double wings

in river’s harmony.

He flies a half a globe

around my early gaze,

disappears in meshed stories

of green reeds, silent chroniclers

of meadowsweet’s reflections.

Transforming to a memory,

he hovers, an orphan note,

among riverbank mysteries

secluded in music as delicate

as his flight, his leaving.

His sudden absence makes

me feel this place’s menace,

an instant that owns a life,

a moment in a person’s time,

sorrow deeper than the heart.

Sadness of going, longing

for precious presence, leaves

a half world, shadowed,

fragile as the invisible one

the dragonfly embraces.

I think about the lonely thoughts

that seal a person’s intent,

a soul’s search for peace,

within flight’s invisible orb.
