     The Impossible Boy

The bathroom air is cut.

A figment of young blood

entangled with a trace

of disinfectant swabbed

on no scraped knee.

A tear nonetheless from the eye

that never opened.

Like dew on a current,

it whispers on your cheek

while syllables

from no living tongue

flicker on your lobe

and break into particles.

Later in bed it is there

in your heart.

In your chambers

you detect it.

His interrupted beat.
