      The Art of Vanishing

Whatever I did was wrong.
Whatever I do is in no way
the next step I vowed:

not to be scraps or feces
of a night but be pure dawn
which has not known

the colors other than
its own. Forgive me,
my Lord, my motif

behind my action, my habit
of constantly passing out

and then

rising again, dusting
myself, pretending as if
I tripped,

taking a cue from childhood.
And, Lord, forgive her,
my wife, who does not

believe in you or me
when I am gone,
presuming, I was practicing

the art of vanishing once more—

flippant she may seem on the rim

but she’s naïve in the core.
