Swan Lake

Against the Gaiety’s plum-velvet plush,
in my yellow silk dress
with angora cuffs and collar,
I feel lush as
a cat’s tummy stroked —

See framed
through gold-leaf
a muscular man,
his wand and seed-pods
wrapped in gauze
bulging
like a taut meringue.
