Blue, Yellow

I wanted to get to the blue

But it seemed I was mired

In yellow

Not even a Van Gogh

Sunflower yellow

Mine was sticky and sickly

Blue, I whispered again

And again in my mind

The way some men sing Amen

It didn't seem to matter

Saying Blue

Was simply something to do

Time passed

I looked around

Everything was yellow still

By now my eyes

Must have adjusted

I could sit in it

It's not that I enjoyed the yellow

But I knew it was a part of me

And I wanted to be good to me

Wanted to embrace the spectrum

Welcome a sad saffron moment

Let it linger as long as needed

I knew one day I'd get to blue

Then back to yellow, ad infinitum –
This is what it meant to be alive.
