The Wood
Honorary Mention in the 2011 Gregory O'Donoghue International Poetry Competition
After heavy rain comes a deeper sense of the earth,
the recent dry season becomes a distant memory,
mist rises from the green canopy above the wood,
light turns iridescent, nature resettles, yesterday’s sounds
seem far off, even my own breath takes me by surprise.
