2023 Southword Editor’s Poetry Award Result
The inaugural Southword Editor’s Poetry Award has been won by Simon Costello for the best entry of three poems. The winning poems will be published in Southword 46 (summer 2024) and he will receive €1000. Each entrant for their €20 entry fee will receive a complementary postage-free, one-year subscription to Southword.

Simon Costello’s poems are published in The Poetry Review, Bath Magg, The London Magazine, New England Review, The Moth, The Stinging Fly, The Rialto, Banshee, Magma, The Irish Times, The North, and The Tangerine. In 2021, he was awarded The Rialto Nature and Place Poetry Prize and was runner-up in the 2023 Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award. His pamphlet ‘Saturn Devouring’ is forthcoming from The Lifeboat Press in 2024. His debut poetry book ‘Antichrist’ will be published in 2025. He lives in Tullamore, Offaly.
