A creative poetry workshop for 9-12 year olds with poet Niamh O’Connell, hosted by Munster Literature Centre & Nano Nagle Place, Saturday 11 June 2022 (12:00 – 13:30 IST)
The aim of the workshop is to engage the children with poetry. Poetry is often believed by children to have strict forms and rhyming schemes. By encouraging the children to think of poetry as a collection of interesting words and images it gives them an understanding of how contemporary poetry works. There are two collaborative games and one individual exercise to allow the children to express themselves. Through each activity we will explore how poetry is an inclusive space.
The individual exercise is centred on a word chosen by each child, which can be from another language, in relation to their culture, or in relation to a special interest of the child.
