Cacti & other poems by Jerm Curtin, new poetry chapbook

The latest in our New Irish Voices series is now available from Southword Editions.

Jerm Curtin is originally from Co. Cork but lives in Spain. He received the Patrick Kavanagh Award in 2021, and the Cúirt International Festival of Literature’s New Writing Prize for Poetry in 2020. He also won the Listowel Writers’ Week Single Poem Award on two occasions – in 2015 and 2018.

“The winning poem, ‘Lola Wakes’ immerses the reader in a world where the rituals of the everyday are shot through with memento mori; the memory of a war, a border crossing, and ‘corpses in the subsoil turn their faces to the light.’ If ever there was a poem for this precarious moment, this poem, in its celebration of intimacy, is it.” – Jessica Traynor, 2020 Cúirt New Writing Prize for Poetry judge

“Curtin combines the sensitivity to language of a poet with a novelist’s eye for character.” – Brian Lynch, 2021 Patrick Kavanagh Award judge
