Order Southword 49, Cork launch 21st November

The winter issue of Southword includes, as well as poetry and fiction, the winner and runners up from our Creative Non-Fiction Award. Join us for a glass of wine at the launch of issue 49 with readings from some of the local poets in the issue.

Amy Abdullah Barry is a poet & short story writer, chosen for the Poetry Ireland Introduction Series 2022. Flirting with Tigers is her debut collection of poems published by Dedalus Press in 2023.

Ella Barron Carton is an emerging poet, with a degree in Creative Writing from NUIG. Her work has appeared in Poetry Ireland Review, Abridged, and Stony Thursday Book, among others.

Dr. Alicia Byrne Keane is a poet from Dublin, with recent work in Banshee and Poetry Ireland Review, along with a second poetry collection forthcoming from Broken Sleep Books (2026).

Maeve Keane is a writer from Cork, and a graduate of the MA in Creative Writing at the University of Limerick. She writes for both children and adults.

Gerry Murphy is an Irish poet, born in Cork in 1952. His latest collection is The Humours of Nothingness (Dedalus Press 2020). He has published two chapbooks with Southword Editions.

Lani O’Hanlon received the Gregory O’Donoghue International Poetry Prize in 2025 and the Poetry Ireland/Trócaire Award in 2023. Her collection Landscape of the Body (2024) is published by the Dedalus Press.

John W. Sexton is the author of eight poetry collections, the most recent being Visions at Templeglantine (Revival Press 2020) and The Nothingness Kit (Beir Bua 2022).

Breda Spaight’s debut collection, Watching for the Hawk (Arlen House), was a finalist for the Farmgate Café National Poetry Award.
